People really show themselves up when they say anyone that likes Shakespeare' are just showing off and can't possibly be genuine.

Surely the snobs are the ones who argue that someone of relatively humble origins couldn't have written the plays?

People of a country where English is not their mother tongue use English in the same way - they'll argue the toss in their own language then fire off a coup de grâce in English to clearly state "I'm educated - don't fucking bother arguing any more with me, you thick peasant!"

Re: Is Shakespeare overrated?
Yes. People only pretend to like him to get an acting job, pass GCSE’s or to appear intellectual. It’s all in a foreign language and his comedies are shit

Never been in a pub named after him that was decent.

Admittedly, only tried the Birmingham and Durham ones.
